Scheduing An Author Visit

Kids Reading GILDA JOYCE

If you would like to have me come to your school to talk about writing, you should tell your librarian, a teacher or a parent about your interest. Have someone who has the authority to plan author visits send me an email at with the subject heading "SCHOOL VISIT" (or something similar). Then we'll discuss the details. Hope to see you at your school!

Jennifer Allison gives a presentation

A note to educators — what I can offer your school

  • Learn how authors come up with ideas for stories
  • Learn how to create vibrant characters
  • Inspire your students to have more fun reading and writing while also improving skill levels

During an author visit at your school, I will share the sources of inspiration that generated the Gilda Joyce novels and offer helpful tips for enhancing the writing process and generating all types of creative work. I'm available for school assemblies and smaller classroom writing workshops during which I guide your students through the process of creating character, setting, and story. After an author visit, your students will not only be excited to read and discuss the "Gilda Joyce" mysteries, they will have renewed enthusiasm for their own writing and creative work.

Contact me at to discuss scheduling details and current speaker fees. (Please note that I'm fairly flexible with regard to school budgets when a book sale and signing is part of the event.)

Comments from a school media specialist following an author visit with Jennifer Allison:

October 24, 2007

Dear Ms. Allison,

Thank you for visiting our school and giving creative writing workshops. Our students loved your presentation!! Students are still making comments to me like, "I really liked that author! When is she coming back?" and "That was so much fun. I wish we could do that more often!" Some of the teachers and I were talking about the workshops and how we wished we would have made them longer. Students are asking for your books every day!

It was wonderful having you, a REAL author, visit our school and talk about how you get ideas for your books. You personalized your workshop in such a way that our students really started taking an interest in their own writing. You showed how writing can be an enjoyable task rather than just another assignment in school. No wonder our students enjoyed it.

Again, thank you for a great presentation! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend your workshops to any other school. I know we would LOVE to have you come back for a whole day. Please let us know when you are coming back to Florida and we will hope to arrange some time in our busy schedule. Thank you again from our students, and me, personally!
